A DEVASTATED family are still ‘living a nightmare’ a year on since the disappearance of their son.

Christopher James Miles (28), known as CJ, was last seen in Ruhpolding, Germany, on July 31, 2010.

His family, from Langar in the Vale of Belvoir, still cling to the hope that he will one day come home or be found but every day that passes is heart-wrenching for CJ’s loved ones while they remain in limbo.

CJ’s dad, Nick (48), is still searching for answers and in the past year has been to Austria three times as he continues to search for answers.

On the day he went missing CJ, who was working for a holiday transfer company, had taken two guests from Salzberg Airport in Austria to Ruhpolding.

From there he was to return home to Zell Am See in Austria but failed to arrive.

A month before his disappearance CJ had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a condition that can cause severe mood swings, but when he was at home with his family in June 2010, a few weeks before he went missing, his dad Nick said he was ‘full of the joys of everything’, particularly about his new flat and car, before returning to Austria.

Nick said: “It’s like living a nightmare. Every day is heart-wrenching thinking what if? We try to keep a normal family life but it’s something you never come to terms with. Sometimes you can switch off but other times you can’t.”

CJ’s family’s hopes of finding him were raised recently following a reported late-night sighting of a man in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, on July 29.

Officers have already looked at CCTV footage and say their investigation currently remains open while they continue to make enquiries.

Nick explained: “We got a call from the Missing Persons Abroad charity to tell us that someone who belongs to a church in Mansfield and who was on a prayer patrol approached a man they’d never seen before in the town centre who said his name was Chris but people call him CJ.

“We’re trying not to build up our hopes too high but we’re hoping to get a result soon, one way or the other.”

CJ’s family have been using Facebook to keep his friends and loved ones up to date on any news they hear and they would like to thank everyone for all their support.

CJ’s essential belongings are already back home with his family in Langar, with one of CJ’s friends arranging for more of his belongings to be returned in October.

The story of CJ’s disappearance has been covered on German TV and in newspapers though Nick feels police in Austria haven’t taken his comments as seriously as their counterparts in Germany.

Nick added: “The more people who know about CJ the better. At the moment we’re still in limbo and we can’t move on but until I’m told otherwise I will continue to hope he’s out there.”
